INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR LUSO-HISPANIC HUMOR STUDIES
ISLHHS

The International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies (ISLHHS) promotes the study and appreciation of humor wherever Spanish and Portuguese are spoken. The Society encourages all areas of humor scholarship in the Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic worlds. It is dedicated to the dissemination of information to a diverse population and encourages communication with others interested in this expanding field.

Members in the ISLHHS may be engaged in academic or related professions but also may be active in various other fields of endeavor, including practicing humorists. They come from throughout the world, sharing a common interest in Luso-Hispanic humor. Membership is on a calendar year basis, January 1 – December 31. Only paid-up members may present at the bi-annual conference. Institutions are eligible for institutional membership.

One of the most valuable services provided by The International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies is the annual conference. The conference brings together scholars from around the world for three days of papers, panels, and informal discussions. Papers encompass but are not limited to literature, linguistics, theater, film, art, politics, folklore, cartoons and graphic humor, and music and social issues. Further, they are to be in language accessible to the non-specialist and should avoid excessive jargon. The formal sessions are complemented with a keynote address by a noted humorist or humor scholar and exhibits of books and humor related materials.
